Response of Anastrepha suspensa (Diptera: Tephritidae) to terminal diamines in a food-based synthetic attractant.
A current trapping system for Anastrepha fruit flies uses a two-component food-based synthetic attractant consisting of ammonium acetate and putrescine (1,4-diaminobutane). Development of more effective monitoring programs may be realized through identification of additional attractant chemicals. This study examined response of the Caribbean fruit fly, Anastrepha suspensa (Loew), to putrescine ...
متن کاملAttractiveness to Anastrepha ludens (Diptera: Tephritidae) of plant essential oils and a synthetic food-odour lure
Experiments were conducted in a citrus orchard to investigate the attractiveness of 26 plant essential oils individually and in combination with a synthetic food odour lure to the Mexican fruit fly, Anastrepha ludens Loew. Anise, rose/grape seed, and tea tree oils were more attractive than unbaited traps but none approached the attractiveness of Advanced Pheromone Technologies AFF lure, a synth...
متن کاملComparison of the efficacy of different food attractants and their concentration for melon fly (Diptera: Tephritidae).
The relative attractiveness of six commercially available protein hydrolysates and the influence of their concentration were evaluated in field cages by a release-capture method of lab-reared melon fly adults, Bactrocera cucurbitae (Coquillett). Buminal, Corn Steepwater, Hym-Lure, Pinnacle, Nulure, and SolBait were tested for both sexes of the melon fly. The tested products exhibited clear diff...
متن کاملAmmonia and Carbon Dioxide: Quantitation and Electroantennogram Responses of Caribbean Fruit Fly, Anastrepha suspensa (Diptera: Tephritidae)
A Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic method was developed to quantify ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2) to facilitate accurate determination of antennal sensitivity of adult Caribbean fruit ßies, Anastrepha suspensa (Loew), to these compounds. Electroantennogram (EAG) recordings were made from antennae of ßies that were exposed to known quantities of each of the pure gases and...
متن کاملColor preference of Anastrepha obliqua (Diptera, Tephritidae)
Color preference of Anastrepha obliqua (Macquart) (Diptera, Tephritidae). The color preference of A. obliqua was evaluated in two-choice tests. The results showed that both sexes were attracted to wavelengths ranging from 340 nm to 670 nm, although the broad major peak of attraction occurred between 380 and 570 nm.
